This educational offering is designed specifically for the health care risk management professional responsible for risk management strategies in an acute care facility. Objectives:

  • • Define and explain respiratory compromise, opioid induced respiratory depression, opioid-induced sedation and advancing respiratory depression, opioid stewardship.
  • • Understand the importance of improving our current Respiratory Compromise prevention paradigms.
  • • Explain the medical-legal trends and issues regarding postoperative respiratory depression claims.
  • • Describe a risk management strategy to mitigate the threat of opioid induced-respiratory compromise in a postoperative patient.
