Medical device and equipment failures remain a significant source of preventable patient harm, operational disruption, and organizational risk. In this webinar, leaders from Johns Hopkins Health System will share how they established a Medical Device Safety Committee (MDSC) to provide enterprise-wide oversight of device safety, standardize reporting and escalation processes, and improve management of recalls and equipment concerns across multiple care settings. Attendees will explore the governance structure, stakeholder engagement strategies, communication workflows, and policies that support a proactive, systemwide approach to medical device risk management. Through real-world lessons learned, participants will gain practical insights for strengthening safety infrastructure, reducing variation in response processes, and fostering shared accountability for medical device safety within their own organizations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify health system leadership champions and stakeholders required to support an effective Medical Device Safety Committee (MDSC)
  2. Describe a standardized, system-wide process for reviewing medical device–related operational issues, patient safety events and risk mitigation
  3. Describe key components of policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to medical device management, products and recall management
