Our expert faculty reviews evidence-based strategies to improve infection control practices and eliminate reprocessing errors commonly observed in clinical practice.

Recently, the Food and Drug Administration released multiple Safety Alerts to notify health care providers and facilities of recent adverse events associated with reprocessing failures and device design challenges of many reusable instruments and other medical devices. The webinar reviews common reprocessing errors that take place in the inpatient and outpatient procedural areas and central sterile processing departments that can lead to patient safety breaches, risks for health care-associated infections, and preventable associated mortality and morbidity.

  • • Discuss the clinical implications of the recent FDA Safety Alert regarding reusable medical devices and contamination risks.
  • • Review the current evidence-based clinical recommendations for infection control related to the use of medical devices to prevent cross-contamination and infection risk.
  • • Discuss how to operationalize the FDA and CDC medical device safety recommendations to mitigate risks to the patient and health care provider team.
