This webinar covers deployment of body cameras worn by hospital security personnel and the risk manager's primary legal concerns with use of these devices in the health care setting.

The webinar covers a risk professionals’s primary legal concerns, such as HIPAA compliance, privacy, and consent to be recorded, and designing a policy to avoid liability through proper use of the devices. We also explore return on investment and added value potential offered by body cameras. Finally, we explain how body cameras reduce workplace violence through de-escalation of aggressive behavior and enhancing a culture of accountability.

  • • Discuss risk mitigation in terms of hospital staff accountability and the culture-shift created by enhanced accountability.

Speaker Bio

William "Bill" Marcisz,is the President & Chief Consultant for Strategic Security Management Consulting, Inc. (SSMC), which is based in Orlando, Florida. SSMC is a full-service security consulting firm serving most industries with a specialization in Healthcare, Workplace Violence Prevention, and Expert Witness & Litigation Support. Bill has worked in health care since 1983 in the following roles: Investigations, Security Administration, and as a Hospital Premises & Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney. Before transitioning to full-time Consulting, Bill was the Executive Director of Security, Safety, and Emergency Management for AdventHealth – Central Florida Division (CFD), which is comprised of 22-hospitals and a Corporate Security Division, coordinating with over 700 work & service locations. Bill has been a member of the Florida Bar Association since 2003 and continues to maintain his license to practice law in the State of Florida. Bill is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) through the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and is a longstanding member and serves on the Board of Directors for the ASIS Healthcare Security Council / Steering Committee. He is also a Certified Healthcare Protection Associate (CHPA), through the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS). Bill also serves on the Board of Directors for the United Safety Council. He is also a member of the International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC), the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP). Under Bill’s leadership, the Advent Health-CFD Security Department has been designated as an IAHSS “Program of Distinction” since 2014. AdventHealth was selected as the recipient of the IAHSS’s Lindberg Bell Award for Most Distinguished Healthcare Security Program in 2019. In 2020, AdventHealth received the ASIS Outstanding Security Performance Award (OSPA) for Outstanding Security Team.
