Just like a diver entering shark-infested waters, healthcare risk professionals often find themselves navigating uncertain, high-pressure situations where clarity, composure, and courage are essential. “The Art of Risk Management and Shark Diving” explores how to manage the emotional and cognitive responses that arise in complex medical conflicts and crises. Using the engaging metaphor of shark diving, this session introduces the S.H.A.R.K. framework—a practical, trauma-informed approach that promotes situational awareness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. Participants will learn to recognize and respond to their initial reactions, identify how bias and fear can influence decision-making, and apply strategies that foster safety, self-care, and confidence in even the most turbulent professional waters.
Learning Objectives:
- Respond to the initial reactions for a risk manager when entering an unknown, complex medical conflict or situation
- Identify potential bias and fear of emotionally charged situations and its impacts on decision-making
- Explore approaches to these situations that demonstrate resiliency, safety, and self-care
