Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming healthcare delivery, influencing clinical decisions through diagnostic tools, predictive models, and treatment support systems. Yet as AI becomes embedded in patient care, many organizations continue to govern these technologies through IT and compliance frameworks that were not built to address clinical harm. This webinar explores AI governance through the lens of healthcare risk management, reframing it as a patient safety and liability issue rather than solely a technology concern. Drawing on real-world experience leading AI risk programs in a major academic medical center, attendees will learn practical strategies to identify AI-related clinical risks, establish effective governance structures, and communicate AI risk exposure to leadership in meaningful financial and patient safety terms.

  1. Identify at least three categories of AI-enabled clinical tools that create patient safety liability exposure distinct from traditional health IT risk.

Dr. Omar Sangurima, CPHRM, CRISC, AIGP, CISM, CDPSE, and OCEG GRC, is a healthcare risk and technology governance leader with more than a decade of experience building enterprise risk programs at major academic medical centers. He oversees cybersecurity, AI governance, third-party risk management, and privacy across a multi-billion-dollar healthcare operation. Omar has pioneered the use of quantitative risk analysis, including FAIR, to translate technology risks into financial and patient safety impacts for executive decision-making. Holding CPHRM, CRISC, AIGP, CISM, CDPSE, and OCEG GRC certifications, he bridges clinical risk, information security, and governance. He advises on AI risk and emerging technology governance.
