Hidden in Plain Sight: Diagnostic Error in the ED examines one of the most impactful patient safety and risk management challenges facing healthcare organizations today. Drawing on an analysis of more than 6,000 closed medical malpractice claims, this session explores the prevalence of diagnostic error in emergency and urgent care settings, the diagnoses most frequently missed, and the factors associated with serious patient harm. Participants will gain insight into system vulnerabilities and cognitive biases that contribute to diagnostic failures and subsequent liability exposure. The webinar will also highlight practical, proactive strategies that healthcare risk professionals, patient safety leaders, and clinical teams can implement to strengthen diagnostic processes and improve outcomes. Attendees will leave with actionable approaches and resources to help reduce diagnostic error and enhance patient safety within their organizations.
