ASHRM Recognizes Adventist Health System with Patient Safety Award

CHICAGO (October 15, 2018) – The American Society of Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM) has named Adventist Health System of Altamonte Springs, Fla., as the recipient of the annual ASHRM Patient Safety Award - Partnering with Datix to Recognize Patient Safety Innovation.
This annual award recognizes organizational excellence in patient safety and celebrates the efforts of risk management professionals in promoting patient safety across the health care enterprise.
Adventist Health System’s submission highlighted their development of a new root cause (RCA) analysis method, which includes system thinking, human factors analysis, identification of causal links, accountability for monitoring effective risk reduction strategies, and leadership support. These changes provided Adventist Health with an evidenced-based, reliable, and effective program to identify defects, eliminate process issues, and share patient safety improvement actions across the organization.
Jean Hood, RN, MSN, CPHRM, CPPS, FASHRM, Director Clinical Risk Management, Mary Jo Thompson, RN, CPHRM, CPPS, FASHRM, Senior Loss Control Manager, Mary Ann Andrews, RN, BA, CPHRM, Loss Control Manager, Debra Calcanis, RN, BSN, Clinical Analyst, and Kimberly Williams, RN, BSN, Loss Control Manager accepted the award on behalf of Adventist Health System at ASHRM’s Annual Conference on Oct. 9, 2018, in Nashville.
ASHRM Patient Safety Award - Partnering with Datix to Recognize Patient Safety Innovation was created to recognize innovations that promote patient safety as well as overall organizational excellence. The award recognizes programs that support collaboration with other providers across the continuum of care and can be replicated or adapted by other organizations.
