The Effect of Noncompliance with HIPAA/MIPS

Thursday, October 5
1 - 2 p.m. (CT)
2 - 3 p.m. (ET)
Noon - 1 p.m. (MT)
11 a.m. - Noon (PT)

HIPAA breaches, fines, and penalties are becoming more frequent and more costly. MIPS compliance, within MACRA, is becoming a new healthcare compliance headache for physician practices because the physicians now have a new set of regulations to meet or face losing 4% of their Medicare reimbursement rates in 2019, with 5% in 2020, 7% in 2021, and 9% in 2022. Risk managers may feel they have a great understanding of how HIPAA and maybe even how MIPS works and how to comply with those laws. This webinar will review some of the basic compliance requirements every covered entity would have to comply with to avoid the fines and penalties associated with these laws. The webinar will review HIPAA, any current changes, and current fines and penalties. The webinar will discuss the basic requirements for MIPS compliance. It will also cover how these laws can affect a covered entity if they fail to mitigate the risks involved with not being in compliance, and what to expect going forward. Risk managers who attend this webinar will have a better understanding about what is necessary to help their covered entities comply with these healthcare compliance laws.

  • Discuss HIPAA/MIPS compliance issues and identify how best to address those issues to keep from getting penalized for noncompliance
  • Examine the risks of not being fully in compliance with these laws and what that can mean to a covered entity
  • Identify steps to take that can help mitigate the risk of not being in compliance with these laws
