Healthcare Risk Management Week
June 14-18, 2010
ASHRM members can work together to celebrate our profession and tell our story to our institutions and employers. Communicating the value of risk managers and patient safety leaders is something we can all do to better serve our profession now and in the future.
How do I tell the story?
Healthcare Risk Management Week is June 14-18, 2010. Start today in your efforts to drive awareness of the week and the organizational value that you deliver. These ideas are easily customized and offer opportunities to share personal stories:
- Send an e-mail to your leadership team (medical, C-suite, others) sharing that Healthcare Risk Management Week is June 14-18, 2010, and that you want to take this opportunity to drive awareness and understanding of the important role of today’s healthcare risk manager. Share the media release in your e-mail.
- Tell your story! Healthcare risk managers are a strategic investment for your leadership team members – and taking the initiative to show the value you bring can help demonstrate the value of their investment.
- Consider hosting internal events such as a “lunch and learn” or a brown bag lunch (such as this sample) and share a short PowerPoint presentation on the value of healthcare risk management
- Taking the time to build advocates inside your organization starts with an understanding of our work.
- Leveraging the games and activities (such as a word search or maze) in your lunchtime meetings can keep events light and engaging.
- Schedule a conference room and invite co-workers to attend the June 16 webinar. This webinar tackles workplace intimidation as a risk and patient safety issue.
- Everyone can play a role in patient safety and risk management. As a healthcare risk manager, you can help foster this conversation through educational opportunities such as the webinar.
- Leave meeting attendees, and others, with the healthcare risk management Q&A that shares the value of today’s professionals. Post Q&A on common bulletin boards; e-mail Q&A to key influencers within your organization.
- Using “leave-behind” materials is a great way to continue the conversation after the week has concluded.
- Proactively deliver key messages about the field of healthcare risk management to not only leaders, but co-workers, friends, and family, too. Using these key messages is an easy way to invite conversation about our profession:
- Healthcare Risk Management Week is June 14-18, 2010. As a member of ASHRM, I can talk to you about the value that healthcare risk managers bring to today’s, and tomorrow’s, workplace.
- We offer expertise on risk prevention and people-centered incident management by protecting the patient, the organization’s financial resources, and the organization’s reputation.
- We strive to deliver safe and trusted healthcare for our organizations and for patients. Safe and trusted healthcare means saving lives and saving financial resources.
- Other ideas:
- Share help cards with co-workers who may want more information about risk management and patient safety.
- Set up a “room of horrors” to illustrate patient safety issues.
- Contact local officials/VIPs seeking official recognition of the week by using the sample proclamation.
- Consider reaching out to local television, radio, and newspapers to discuss the week and share the media release.
- Brand Healthcare Risk Management Week in your organization by leveraging ASHRM’s 2010 promotional products (order by 6/1).
- Find creative ways to insert maze and word search puzzles into events that your peers and co-workers are attending. (And here’s the solution to word search puzzle 1.)
We hope that you find these resources useful and enjoyable and can find opportunities to deliver these messages to your organizations all year long.
And start making plans now for the next celebration: June 20-24, 2011.
