ASHRM announces election results for 2003-2004 board
CHICAGO, IL (Aug. 23, 2002) - Election results for the 2003-2004 board of directors and nominating committee of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management have been announced.

Jeffrey Driver, JD, MBA, chief risk officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, is the new president-elect. He will serve as president of ASHRM in 2004. Mr. Driver has been in corporate risk management since 1991.

Before joining BID, Mr. Driver was risk manager for Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego. He currently serves on the ASHRM board and has been active in advocacy and representation activities of ASHRM as a committee chair. Mr. Driver will follow 2003 president Jane McCaffrey, DFASHRM, MHSA, risk manager at Oconee Memorial Hospital, Seneca, SC.

Also, three new members of the board were elected to serve a two-year term commencing in January 2003 and concluding in December 2004. They are:
  • Joyce Benton, RN, DFASHRM, CPHRM, senior health consultant for C N A HealthPro, McDonough, GA
  • Mary Marta, MSN, JD, CPHQ, associate, National Health Law Practice, Epstein Becker & Green, Washington, DC
  • Sherrill Peters, BSN, FASHRM, CPHRM, director, clinical risk management for Community Health Systems, Brentwood, TN.
They will be joining these board members who will complete a two-year term in 2003:
  • Jane McCaffrey (2002 president-elect; 2003 president), Seneca, SC
  • Monica Berry (2002 president; 2003 past-president), Rockford, IL
  • Ronni Solomon, Plymouth Meeting, PA
  • Mark Cohen, Sacramento, CA
  • Michael Seitz, Minneapolis, MN
  • Paul English Smith, Huntington, WV.
In addition to the 2003-2004 board, newly elected nominating committee members are:
  • Sherry Brunner, Marriottsville, MD
  • Pamela Burger, Springfield, MA
  • Carol Doyle, Louisville, KY
  • Karen Farley, Memphis, TN
  • Sharon Lee Groves, Columbus, OH
  • Robert Pendrak, Harrisburg, PA
  • Elaine Ziemba, Los Angeles, CA.

ASHRM conducts an annual election for president-elect, board and nominating committee. The board is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of ASHRM on behalf of its members. The board determines the strategic goals and direction for ASHRM and approves the society’s strategic plan, annual operating plan and budget; it also oversees programs and overall performance and provides guidance to the staff executive director of ASHRM.
