Call to Action on Medical Liability Reform Legislation - July 8th
Next week, the Senate will be voting on medical liability reform bill S.11, the "Patients First Act of 2003". This is your chance to explain why medical liability reform is so important.
Medical liability reform legislation is scheduled to be introduced in the Senate on Tuesday, July 8. The Senate needs to hear from constituents like you about the critical need for medical liability reform.
Please call or e-mail a letter to your senators today! Describe your support for S. 11, "Patients First Act of 2003", and urge your senators to support medical liability reform.
To contact your Senators, follow these steps for action:
1.) View S.11, the "Patients First Act of 2003" by visiting http://thomas.loc.gov and searching for S.11.
2.) Personalize the sample member template letter below. Be sure to include your risk management perspective about medical liability reform. Your letter will be more powerful if you include examples of the difference that such reforms would make.
3.) Obtain your Senators' contact information by visiting http://www.senate.gov.
4.) Call, E-mail and/or fax your comments to your legislator by Tuesday, July 8. Be sure to urge them to vote for S.11 and thank them for their support. You may call your senator through a system that has been set up by ASHRM's partners in medical liability reform, the Coalition for Affordable and Reliable Health Care:
a.) Dial 1-800-335-4860
b.) When prompted, enter access code 9999.
c.) When prompted, enter your zip code.
d.) When you are connected to your senator's office, ask for their Health Care
Legislative Assistant.
