Webinar: Avoiding E-iatrogenesis through Risk Management Leadership

    Date/Time
    Thursday, March 21, 2013

    1 - 2 p.m. (CT)
    2 - 3 p.m. (ET)
    Noon - 1 p.m. (MT)
    11 a.m. - Noon (PT)

Fueled in part by the incentives offered through the Meaningful Use program, increasing numbers of healthcare providers—from single practitioner office practices to large multi-site healthcare networks—are adopting EMR technology.

Often the rush to implement the system, however, can override careful analysis of the system impact on risk and patient safety. Similarly, the focus on developing EMR templates designed to result in quality indicator reports and maximized billing, can inadvertently encourage documentation that no longer tells the story of the patient’s care.

To ensure that patient safety and risk considerations are built into the system along with ease of use and functionality, the presenters of this webinar draw on the lessons they learned from an enterprise use of an EMR in a technically progressive healthcare network. Participants will be provided with tips and guidelines to ensure that patient safety and risk considerations are built into their systems.

By the end of this webinar, participants should be able to:

    • Identify several potential risk and patient safety concerns for consideration when helping staff integrate an EMR system into their practice.
    • Identify needs and best practices for addressing the educational needs of clinical staff relating to EMR use and workflow modification.
    • Describe the unique challenges and opportunities as sophisticated health systems move toward Enterprise Electronic Medical Record Systems that integrate inpatient and ambulatory patient records from multiple sites into one source.
