Webinar: The Cutting Edge: A Study of Malpractice Claims in Surgery

    Date/Time
    Thursday, May 17, 2012

    1 - 2:00 p.m. (CT)
    2 - 3:00 p.m. (ET)
    Noon - 1:00 p.m. (MT)
    11 a.m. - 12:00 (PT)

According to recent studies, patients who sue their surgeons for malpractice are increasingly receiving larger indemnity payments. The potential for error goes beyond the walls of the operating room (OR). Surgeons are found responsible for errors across the entire surgical timeline including flawed decisions to operate, technical errors in the OR and post-operative mismanagement during recovery. Alarmingly, most of these scenarios are preventable.

This thought-provoking webinar will address the factors at every stage of the surgical encounter that expose both patients and surgeons to potential risks.

After the webinar participants should be able to:

    • Identify the three most problematic surgical procedures
    • List three causes of claims that arise from
    • Describe the three most common injuries suffered by patients during in-patient surgery
