EDUCATION SESSIONS

 

Concurrent education sessions are organized by track, with each track serving a specific purpose.

 

Claims & Litigation

This track will cover the challenges specific to the litigation process in long-term care, trends in hospital and physician liability loss costs and claims count, the advantage of separating negotiating and mediation from litigation and arbitration in the claims resolution process, and understanding the value of developing and maintaining early relationships with patients – including setting realistic expectations.

* Objective: Learn the latest trends in hospital, long-term care, physician liability, and claims management tools and techniques.

 

Enterprise Risk Management

Managing risk organization-wide calls for progressive techniques. Attendees in this track will learn how the risk manager can creatively apply financial strategic and operational concepts to an integrated risk management program.

* Objective: Understand and apply new approaches and successful tools that will empower the risk manager to effectively manage risks enterprise-wide.

 

Legal & Regulatory

This track will provide enlightening presentations that focus on new legal developments and regulations. Specific sessions will address credentialing, accreditation challenges, emergency departments and long-term care issues as well as recent case law.

* Objective: Obtain the latest information on the legal and regulatory environment.

 

Patient Safety

Focused on the development of a patient safety culture to improve the quality of care, this track will offer presentations related to human factors analysis, patient safety technology, emergency medicine, disruptive physicians, storytelling and more.

* Objective: Learn and discover new approaches to patient safety concepts to improve patient care.

 

Risk Financing

With declining health care reimbursements, health system resources have become precious. This track will educate risk management professionals on the risk financing continuum from the basics to alternative risk financing techniques. Participants will understand the importance of partnering with their CFOs, brokers, underwriters and insurers to reduce the health care system’s insurance cost.

* Objective: Realize accountability in identifying a health system’s exposures and reduce the total cost of insuring risk.

 

Special Topics

This track will help attendees understand management strategies to meet the risk management professional’s wide-ranging concerns relating to obstetrics, bariatric surgery, physician practices, quality management and telehealth.

* Objective: Learn innovative approaches to a variety of today’s risk issues.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

 

Annual conference attendees are awarded credits from:

 

Illinois Nurses Association. This CE activity, for 15 contact hours, has been provided by the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Illinois Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. INA Provider Approval Number 0806-4022-23.

 

American College of Healthcare Executives. ASHRM is authorized to award 12.5 hours of pre-approved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Participants of this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward Category II credit should list their attendance when applying for advancement, recertification or reappointment in ACHE.

 

ASHRM. This program qualifies for 15 contact hours of continuing education credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of ASHRM designations of FASHRM (Fellow) and DFASHRM (Distinguished Fellow), and towards CPHRM renewal.

 

Healthcare Quality Certification Board. This program has been approved for 12.5 continuing education hours for CPHQ recertification by the HQCB.

 

American Health Information Management Association. This program has been approved by AHIMA for 13 hours of CEUs.

 

Healthcare Compliance Certification Board. This program has been approved for 6.0 CEU's by the HCCB (Code: ASHRM-16).

 

The Florida Bar.  This course has been approved by The Florida Bar for 15.00 general CLER credits, including 1.00 ethics.
