“New World, New Approaches” is the theme of ASHRM’s 2004 Annual Conference & Exhibition. For the latest thinking on patient safety, risk financing, enterprise risk management and much more, Orlando in October is the center of our world.
Planning for this year’s event began in January, with ASHRM staff and volunteers carefully considering comments from last year’s conference evaluation surveys. Their goal: To put together the best, most comprehensive educational and networking program possible – one that meets our strategic commitment to professional development. (See the Purpose & Objectives page for details.)
A diverse faculty of thought leaders in health care risk management was chosen to share wisdom and experience on matters of vital interest Oct. 18-20 in dozens of engaging sessions. In a challenging new world, what are the approaches necessary to help staff and leadership see the value of risk management? Answers can be found here.
The “outside” insights of keynote speakers always bring new revelations to challenge and inspire us. This year, health industry strategy expert Dr. Brenda Zimmerman will open the conference on Oct. 17 to explain how we can apply lessons from chaos and complexity theories to our work in complex systems, Simon T. Bailey promises to help us unleash our inner brilliance, Prof. Karlene Roberts will share her insights on the characteristics of high reliability organizations, and Fred Lee's closing keynote Oct. 20 will illustrate how unconventional wisdom can improve patient relations.
Credentials help elevate professionals in a competitive world, and the Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) designation is our profession’s premier credential. So this year, ASHRM is conveniently providing a CPHRM examination preparation study session on Oct. 17 and an on-site administration of the exam on Oct. 20.
The centerpiece of ASHRM’s continuing educational offerings is the Barton Certificate in Healthcare Risk Management Program. The Applications Module, which will be offered Oct. 14-16 immediately before the conference, is an excellent opportunity to gain applicable knowledge on laws and regulations, emergency preparedness and more from an expert faculty.
Getting together with your peers is another great way to learn new approaches. ASHRM’s 2004 Annual Conference & Exhibition provides unique networking opportunities. And nowhere else can health care risk management professionals meet with so many providers of useful products and services. The massive exhibition hall will be filled Oct. 17-19 with all sorts of new tools to improve our effectiveness as safety and risk financing experts.
Our annual meeting is also a reunion of friends, and the Marriott World Center in Orlando provides a wonderful place for that. Set on 200 tropical acres, the conference center/hotel boasts an 18-hole championship golf course (bring your clubs) and 10,000-square-foot full-service spa (bring your stress). Upscale shopping is nearby (bring your credit cards) and Disney World is just a zippity doo-da away (bring your family).
We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
