Who can join the ASHRM Listserv?

The ASHRM Listserv is open to all members of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management and is intended for the discussion of issues related to healthcare risk management.

What is a listserv?

A listserv is discussion forum that uses e-mail as a medium. When a subscriber sends a message to the list (or replies to a message from the list), all other subscribers get a copy of that e-mail.  Subscribers may use a listserv to ask and respond to industry-related questions.

How can I subscribe/unsubscribe to the list?

Go to the ASHRM Listserv signup page to subscribe, unsubscribe or update your delivery preferences.

How do I send a message to the list?

Send an e-mail to ashrm@ahals.aha.org. Make the subject line of the e-mail clear and concise, so other subscribers can discern the relevance of the message.  Include your name and e-mail address for follow-up.

How do I reply to a message?

To reply to a message, hit "reply to" -- the e-mail address for the list (ashrm@ahals.aha.org ) should appear in the "to" line of your e-mail.  Write your message in the body and hit send.

Will my message go through immediately?

The ASHRM List is moderated; messages and subscriptions to the list require staff approval, which will result in a short delay.  Messages outside regular business hours will be approved on the next business day.  You will only receive a copy of your own message if you indicated that preference when you signed up for the listserv.

Can I send an attachment to the list?

The ASHRM List does not accept attachments. To solicit or share documents, please include your e-mail address in the body of your message and have people contact you directly.  If you are referring to a web site, the URL should include http:// so that browser-enabled software can automatically link to it.

If I subscribe to the list, will I receive spam?

No. The ASHRM Listserv is moderated, which means every message to the list must be approved by an administrator.  You will not receive spam as a result of signing up for the ASHRM Listserv.

Will my messages be archived?

Yes. Subscribers should be aware that all messages to the ASHRM List are permanently archived and searchable via the listserv web site. Subscribers should exercise care in posting and responding to messages.

How do I access the listserv archives?

You must first set up a listserv password.  Go to the ASHRM Listserv home page, click on the link for "Get Password" and follow the instructions. To view or search the archives, go to the ASHRM Listserv home page and log in to your account. To perform a keyword search, click on "Search Archives." To browse the archives by week, enter "ASHRM" in the box for "Access Unlisted Archives." A monthly list of archived posts will appear.

How do I change my listserv delivery settings?

Go to the ASHRM Listserv home page and log into your account (if you do not have an account, follow these instructions ).  Click on the link for "Subscribers Corner" at the top of the page.  Click on "My Settings," then on the "[Settings]" link next to the ASHRM list name.  For a detailed explanation of each setting, click on the question mark icons.

What are the editorial guidelines for posting messages to the list?

Use a concise and descriptive title in the subject line of the message. Always include your name, title and e-mail address in your message or inquiry. Do not expect confidentiality. Listserv messages may be forwarded to others outside the list, and all messages are saved in the archives. Do not request a return receipt when posting to the list.

Can I  promote my company or services on the list?

No. Use of the ASHRM List by any member or vendor to sell, advertise, solicit or market any products or services is prohibited.  All information posted or accessed  must be used for informational, educational and professional purposes. If you can offer expertise, guidance or information on given subjects, please do so, but do not offer this advice as an attempt to promote your own product or service. Any attempt to solicit customers may result in removal from the ASHRM List.  ASHRM connects vendors with its membership via the our searchable online Vendors Directory.

What is the usage policy for the list?

The ASHRM Listserv is made available by the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) for the purpose of discussing matters related to the healthcare risk-management and healthcare profession. Participation is offered to you conditioned on your acceptance of the following terms:

  • Opinions expressed by listserv members do not necessarily reflect the opinions of ASHRM or the American Hospital Association.
  • ASHRM reserves the right to edit or delete any messages it considers inappropriate or to deny access to anyone who violates these terms and conditions.
  • Transmission is prohibited for any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, profane or otherwise objectionable information of any kind, including, without limitation, any transmissions constituting or encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any local, state, national or international law.
  • Transmission is prohibited of any information or software that contains a virus, trojan horse, worm or other harmful component.
  • The list cannot be used to exchange information, services, materials or software in return for payment of any sort (trade of like items, special discounts, cash, etc.)
