    Foundation FAQs

Q:  Do I need to be an ASHRM member to qualify for a grant through the ASHRM Foundation?
    A.  No.  Anyone who meets the ASHRM Foundation’s criteria is eligible for a grant.

Q:  Our organization is outside of Chicago.  Will the ASHRM Foundation consider the proposal?
A:  The ASHRM Foundation is national.  We will accept proposals from all states.

Q: Do I need to have an IRB (Institutional Review Board) prior to submitting my research grant application?
A:  IRB approval is required if the research project involves human subjects. Applications without a required IRB are ineligible. If the applicant does not have access to an IRB at his/her home institution, the HRET IRB may be used in advance of the application for funds. A fee may be charged by the HRET IRB for review of the proposal.

Q:  Can we submit grant proposals in more than one area?
    A:  No.

Q:  How often can we apply?
A:  Applications are accepted throughout the year, with designated cut-offs to allow for the awarding of the monies on a quarterly basis. The ASHRM Foundation will only consider one application per fiscal year from any one organization or individual.  Our fiscal year is January through December.

Q:  Can I e-mail or fax an application?
    A:  Yes.

Q:  Who should write a letter of recommendation for me?
A:  A letter of recommendation should reflect your academic and/or professional  excellence and can be written by a professor or employer.

Q:  How will I know if the proposal will be awarded? A:  An email will be sent to the applicant informing them of the status of the grant process.

Q:  If I have not been selected for an ASHRM Scholarship, can I reapply?
A:  Yes, you are welcome to reapply but not until the next fiscal year.  Please make sure you take a look at the Web site for updated application information each time you apply.

Q:  I just applied for a scholarship.  How will I know if I have been chosen?
A:  The scholarship recipients, as well as those who have not been selected, will be notified by email and will be asked to complete a letter of agreement.

Q:  What if the ASHRM Foundation receives a grant after the deadline?
A:  All grants received after the deadline will be held for the next grant cycle.

Applications must have all required documentation in order to be considered. Please retain a copy of your submission for your records.
